THE REPENTANCE OF A SAINT

Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi Sahib رحمه الله has mentioned an incident of a pious servant of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله who related the story of his repentance. There was a severe drought for one year and everyone was worried and distressed. Whilst the people were in anxiety, this pious servant saw a slave singing and walking nonchalantly.

Someone asked the slave; “Everyone is worried and distressed, yet you are so unperturbed!?”

The slave replied; “Why should I be perturbed? My master owns two villages.”

The pious servant said that my conscience pricked me immediately and I thought to myself; “O self! The master of this slave owns two villages, that is why he is so unworried. Your Master owns and controls the earth and heavens – the entire universe – yet you are so worried?” Hazrat Hakeemul Ummah رحمه الله said that ever since that time, the pious servant became occupied in the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله.

We are presently consumed in various concerns. We have lost touch with reality. We require to remind ourselves that notwithstanding the various challenges the Ummah is going through, Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله knows!
