EFFECTS OF MUJAAHADAH AND MURĀQABAH

Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi Sahib رحمه الله has stated that every creation of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله worships Him. Striving against the evil promptings of the Nafs (Mujaahadah) does not eliminate immodest inclinations but rather, Mujaahadah serves as an aid against the lustful demands of the Nafs. The need for the continuous battle against the evils of the Nafs is vital to preserve and maintain modesty.

Another important point for us to realise is that our moral purification and reformation (Tazkiyah Nafs) is obligatory. Moral purification and reformation is reliant on Mujaahadah. There are two kinds of Mujaahadah;
1. Striving with the body and;
2. Striving with wealth.

Our objective in life should solely be the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله. The only way to acquire His pleasure is to abandon lustful and immodest inclinations. The need to inculcate the fear of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله is essential as an assistance in attaining the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله. The simple method of gaining the true fear of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله is through Murāqabah (meditation). Murāqabah means that we spend some time in solitude and meditate on the certainty of death, reminding ourselves that we will be placed in our graves alone with only the companionship of our actions and having conviction that we will be resurrected on the day of Qiyāmah to stand before Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله and account for our actions. The elimination of nafsaani (lustful) desires is how the fear of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله is achieved. This is the yardstick of modesty. The benefit of adopting this method is nothing but Jannah.

We need towhere we refrain from lustful desires, adorn ourselves with modesty for this short period in this world and attain everlasting salvation and comfort. Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله grant us the inner strength to exert ourselves in those actions that will earn His pleasure!
