Hazrat Mufti Ebrahim Salejee Sahib حفظه الله has said that after Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddeeq رضي الله عنه was appointed as Khaleefa, he was approached by the children of the neighbourhood who told him that they feared that he would not be as affectionate to them as before. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه assured them that he would continue showing them the same kind of affection.
Hazrat Mufti Sahib حفظه الله has explained that notwithstanding his high position and responsibilities, he didn’t feel it below his dignity to show affection to the children of the neighbourhood. This is what is needed in our lives. And the very first people we can start of with are our family members; especially our womenfolk and children.
Unfortunately, as our Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Mu’eed Sahib حفظه الله has stressed repeatedly in his discourses, we are so absorbed with our gadgets (laptops, cellular phones, etc) that we have forgotten our families. It is indeed a tragedy that all family members retreat into their rooms and are consumed in this ‘imaginary’ pleasure offered by our slavery to our gadgets. Let us sincerely take a step back and reflect when was the last time we had a proper conversation with our wives and children? There is no greater feeling than to feel wanted. The sooner we focus on bringing back the human touch in our lives the more comfortable will be our existence.
The question is; are we prepared to embrace the quality of compassion and become human beings?
