(1) Islaamic History The discussion with Abu Taalib the uncle of Rasulullaah (SAW)
Ignoring the opposition from the Kuffaar, Rasulullaah (SAW) persistently tried convincing them not to worship idols and to accept the true Deen. The leaders of the Quraysh then approached Rasulullaah (SAW)’s uncle Abu Taalib and complained to him saying, “Your nephew speaks ill of our gods. He says that our forefathers were astray and makes us look like fools. You should therefore either stop protecting him or come out in the open so that we can make a decision.” Abu Taalib became worried when he heard this and called for Rasulullaah (SAW), saying, “Dear nephew! Do not place on me a burden that I am unable to bear.” “Dear uncle!” Rasulullaah (SAW) explained, “I swear by Allaah that if these people place the sun in my one hand and the moon in the other, I shall still not forsake my responsibility. The Deen of Allaah shall either prevail or I shall be destroyed in the effort. Abu Taalib was moved by this statement and said, “Go and do as you please. I shall never hand you over to anyone.” This reply made the Mushrikeen leave despondently.

Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “Besides a few of them whom We had rescued (from punishment), why were there no more men of understanding from the nations of the past, who would prevent (others from) corruption (kufr and Shirk) in the land? (However, instead of preventing others from kufr) The oppressors followed (indulged in) the luxuries they enjoyed and (just like the masses) were criminals (also did what others did).
