(1) Islaamic History The people of the village
Surah Yaaseen speaks about the people of a village who were steeped in Kufr, Shirk, and many evils. Allaah first sent to them two Messengers to guide them, but they refused to submit. Allaah then sent yet another Messenger. When the three Ambiyaa ((RA)) tried to convince the people that they were indeed sent by Allaah, the people started to mock at them and even threatened to kill them. A pious man from out of town then came to them and pleaded with them to believe in the Ambiyaa ((RA)) and to worship the One Allaah Who created them and to Whom they will all return. However, the people killed him. Allaah then granted him a place in Jannah, after which he said, “If only my people had known the reason why my Rabb had forgiven me and made me from among the honoured ones (If they knew this, they would surely have followed my example)!”. Eventually, the people became even more obstinate and were finally destroyed by Allaah’s punishment.
(2) Rasulullaah (SAW)’s Miracle Blessings in some barley
Hadhrat Naufal bin Haarith bin Abdul Muttalib (RA) narrates, “When I requested Rasulullaah (SAW) for assistance in getting married, Rasulullaah (SAW) got me married but when he looked for something to give me, he could find nothing. Rasulullaah (SAW) then deputed Abu Raafi (RA) and Abu Ayyoob (RA) to pawn his armour with a Jew for thirty Saa of barley. Rasulullaah (SAW) handed the barley over to me and after eating from it for half a year; we decided to weigh it. When we did so, we found that it was as much as it had been when we brought it. Upon mentioning it to Rasulullaah (AS), he remarked, ‘Had you not weighed it, you would have eaten from it for as long as you lived.'”
[Mustadrak of Haakim 5075]
(3) A Fardh The Sajdah Tilaawah
Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (SAW) performed Sajdah whenever he recited a Sajdah verse and then the Sahabah y would follow him. In fact, he adds, some of them would not even have place to perform the Sajdah.
[Bukhaari 1075]
After reciting a Sajdah verse, it is Waajib (compulsory) for the reader and the listeners to perform Sajdah.
(4) A Sunnah Du’aa for children
The following Du’aa should be recited by someone who wants to have children:
رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِيْ فَرْدًا وَّأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِيْنَ
TRANSLATION: O my Rabb! Do not leave me childless when You are the Best (and only One) of (those who provide) successors
[Surah Ambiyaa ((RA)), verse 89]
(5) An Important Act and its Virtue Seeking forgiveness
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Allaah spreads out His hands at night so that the sinners of the day may repent and He spreads out His hands during the night so that the sinners of the night may repent. This will continue until the day when the sun rises from the west (just before Qiyaamah, after which no repentance will be accepted).”
[Muslim 6989, from Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash’ari (RA)]
(6) A Sin Plotting against the Muslims
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “They (the wrongdoers) try to hide from people (because they feel ashamed) but they cannot hide from Allaah Who is with them when they pass the night indulging in talks that Allaah dislikes. Allaah surrounds (is Aware of) what they do”.
[Surah Nisaa, verse 108]
(7) This World The life of this world is mere play and amusement
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “The life of this world is mere play and amusement (it has no real value and will soon come to an end). If you have Imaan and Taqwa, He (Allaah) will grant you your rewards (in the Aakhirah) and will not ask you for your wealth (because He has no need for it. When you are asked to spend for the cause of Deen, it is you who will reap the benefits because Allaah is Independent and needs nothing). If Allaah had to ask you for your wealth and demand it (all) from you, (most of) you would have become miserly and (in this manner) He would have exposed your (hidden) dissatisfaction”.
[Surah Muhammad (AS), verses 36-37]
(8) The Aakhirah A tree in Jahannam
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “If just as drop from the tree of Zaqqoom has to fall on earth, it will be difficult for people to live on earth because of its bitterness. What then will the state be of the people of Jahannam when their food will only be Zaqqoom.”
[Tirmidhi 2585, from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas (RA)]
(9) Cures from the Qur’aan and Rasulullaah (SAW) Treating the ill with Talbina
Hadhrat Aa’isha ((RA)) used to advise people to prepare Talbina to treat the ill, saying, “I have heard Rasulullaah (SAW) say that Talbina pacifies the heart of the ill and dispels grief and distress.”
[Bukhaari 5689]
Talbina is made by mixing crushed barley with milk and then adding honey to sweeten it.
(10) Advice from Rasulullaah (SAW)
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “O Muslim women! Never look down on any gift that you give to your neighbour even though it may be the hoof of a goat.”
[Bukhaari 2566, from Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (RA)]
Neighbours should exchange gifts and never look down on any gift.
